Adobe x Cuba
March 15, 2016: Obama administration eases travel restrictions to Cuba
In March of 2016, the U.S. eases restrictions on travel to Cuba and I wanted to be one of the first to visit under these new guidelines. The information for safe travel wasn't available yet and technically "tourism" was still banned so I needed to travel under an educational visa.
I wanted to be one of the first American photographers to travel to document Cuba under the reduced restrictions
I wanted to document what the travel experience to Cuba and Havana before there was a heavy American presence. In preparation for the trip I contacted brands to offer the content for their marketing efforts and Adobe was interested in more than just photography, they wanted content created for their visual storytelling apps launching in May.
10 days in Cuba documenting off-the-beaten-path stories
I intentionally fell for obvious scams selling fake cigars, I hired a driver to take me to western Cuba where tourists weren't legally allowed, I made friends with the local art community and attended underground exhibits, and I walked the streets documenting a country heavily isolated.
